Infinity sells a set of Infinity Kappa 6. 5 on this very website for only $20 more. The improvements are extremely substantial. The Kappas have Infinity’s unique glass-fiber woofer cone. I would a side-by-side comparison to eliminate the change for that placebo-effect in order to taint my personal judgment, and the Kappa’s mid-range just seemed a little sweeter and had more fidelity. The bass the Kappa’s produces also looked more musically correct. Some speakers produce bass in the more punchy approach. Some people prefer this kind. The Kappa’s possess a richer tonality and a smoother, more correct bass imitation. The Kappa’s also provide a various tweeter. The tweeter is actually vastly more advanced than the Research tweeter sound-wise, but isn’t only due to the tweeter by itself. The Kappa features a computer-controlled cross-over which blurs the line among coaxial and component speakers with regards to sound top quality. The Research just have the typical capacitor wired in. Capacitors perform just fine, and they’re what you must expect because of this price-point, but with regard to $20 more, the computer-controlled cross-over is a no-brainer. A large advantage concerning the more advanced cross-over is the low-pass on the woofers.
